Box Death Wilderness, Escalante, Grand Staircase

In early April we took a day trip to Escalante. Our plan was to pack our camping stove, leave early, and have breakfast and lunch along the way.

Our first stop:

Eliz made a rock trail:

We tried to hike to Calf Creek Falls.

Unfortunately it was already late in the day, and most of the hike is like this:

Sandy, uncovered, and very, very hot.

Beautiful, too:

But the kids wore down fast. We turned back and found a place to have lunch. The location was, even though it was hours away, surprisingly similar to the first area we stopped.

"Now take MY picture on that branch!"

"And by this tree!"

Sisters:

Elizabeth begged to take this rock home:

But we told her "No."

Then she asked to take this stick home:

"But Mom, it's the longest stick in the world!"

We settled for keeping the picture of it.

Our last stop was by the Escalante River

to dip our feet

The kids finally got to do what they wanted:

And we called it a day and went home.
